Creeky

Today is the last day we have off until After The Play.  Next week is Show Week, starting...tomorrow, which is technically still THIS week.  Ah, Show Weeeeeek....

So, today, we needed to be out of the house and not thinking about the play.  We have all been battling allergies and/or head colds, Ben in particular has been very puny.  So we opted to do an easy day hanging out with friends at Bankhead.  We met Suzette at her house, then met Michelle at Wren and headed to Kinlock Falls, then went to Thompson Creek where we had a picnic and wandered around near the creek a little while.  The kids filmed some of their movie and skipped rocks and we had a relaxed stroll beside the creek.

It was a very pleasant day, perfect for getting our heads cleared and bolster the kids with the energy they will need to get through the next 8 days.

Blogger will NOT let me put these in order, an issue I am starting to tire of...at any rate, here is our choppy day.

Kinlock Falls, and my camera set on incandescent bulb combine to make this an oddly colored couple of shots!
The water was super low considering all the rain we have had.

eep, cutie alert!

Zachary and Amanda crossed Thompson Creek on a downed tree, carefully making their way to the other side.  Where they simply walked through the creek to get back across.  I thought Suzette was going to string him up.

The kids!

And, closer to what they wanted to be doing instead of smiling at the camera.

Michelle and David!

They stayed up in that overhang so long, I thought they were moving in for good.

Suzette and her inner game show diva showing how large the trees were that blew over last year.
There were a few hundred of these down in the first mile of the trail.

My favorite wildflower, Spring Beauty.  It was the first I learned to ID.

Once the trail curled back around the base of the mountain, the wind damage all but disappeared.

These two again!

Chan decided quite spontaniously to take up the whittle.

wildflower I have yet to identify

These two found a carrot, Zachary is channeling the guy from American Gothic!

Oh, who's an adorable puppy?  Zeppie weppie!

It was a wonderful, laid-back kind of day with nothing more pressing than deciding to have an orange or a banana for a snack while watching the creek flow past.  Everyone needs a creek day now and then!
