River Walk

Today we were in the mood for a good long walk, so we headed to Wheeler to walk near the river.  I got online last night and mapped out what we guessed to be about a 10 mile loop on the closed gravel roads on the Refuge.  Turns out, it was 9.22 miles, so not bad for my estimation skills!

The whole walk was along nearly flat well-packed roads that are closed to traffic and used by Wheeler employees and farmers to access the bulk of the Refuge.  The road we walked was called Eagles Nest Island Road.

We used access roads via Mooresville and parked under the I-65 river bridge.  We planned to keep going along the river and come back around after we got there and got going and realized it was such an easy walk, but ended up cutting up between the Interstate bridges when it became apparent that the kids were flagging.  They have been sick the better part of the week, Jake did not even come today.  He and Zephyr slept all day.

This is a particularly bad shot of one of the zillion flocks of ducks that flew over.
They are harder to get a picture of than I realized.

Ben is enthralled with the select color filter on the camera, so I set it to blue and took a couple shots for him.

Then he wanted to see it with green.
 Eep, he's so cute!

One-legged baby red grasshopper.  You just don't see those every day.

And, at home, he wanted to see yellow.  We were both surprised that it picked up green with yellow, but not yellow with green.
Adoradog!

Chan and I have lovely toenails.  Well, colors anyway.  hahaha
